We’ve put away our Christmas trees, but EastEnders’ huge Christmas episodes have left us with a few loose ends that aren’t as easily tucked away in a box.
While the dramatic holiday specials revealed some mysteries, dropped a few bombshells, and delivered a few of surprises that were kept out of the spoilers previously, they also left us with more questions than answers…
Has Gray got away with it?
We were cautiously optimistic that Gray’s evil reign would come crashing down over the holidays, but he walked into 2022 as a free man. This narrative also doesn’t appear to be coming to an end anytime soon.
Chelsea was adamant about getting away from Gray after the holidays, but her priorities shifted when she went into early labor and gave birth at 24 weeks.
Chelsea has convinced Whitney that she will deal with the Gray matter when she has the strength, and she intends to keep up the pretense next week.
So, when will Gray be apprehended, or will he get away with murder? We doubt it because it’s EastEnders, but talk about kicking the can down the road…
And what about Kush and Tina?
Gray’s story mostly returned to its roots over the Christmas season, with Chantelle’s horrible torture – and subsequent murder – being brought to the forefront, as promised.
Although it’s easy to forget, viewers were reminded of Chantelle’s months of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of Gray until her death in 2020, when Whitney dug out her harrowing forum entries.
Of course, Whitney only has a sliver of the narrative, and the dark secrets behind Tina’s location and Kush’s death remain buried six feet beneath the surface. Could this secret be revealed sooner rather than later, with fans questioning if a subtle moment earlier this week could be a hint to what’s to come?
What now for Chelsea?
Chelsea’s interests have shifted to her newborn son Jordan, but will she still be able to carry out her plan to flee?
Chelsea appears to be trapped with Gray for the foreseeable future after her ill-fated emergency departure failed spectacularly, and she’ll continue to play the loving wife in next week’s episodes.
Whitney will also encourage Chelsea to stay focused on the task at hand, but what does the future hold for her right now?
Will Rocky learn the truth about Dotty?
Is he already aware of the situation? There are so many questions, but there are so few answers. At least for the time being.
Before walking out of Walford on Christmas Day, Sandy dropped the mother of all bombshells when she told Dotty that Rocky was her father (you know, as you do).
Dotty hasn’t revealed the life-changing finding since, and there’s no evidence of it in future spoilers, leaving us to wonder if and when Rocky will hear about it as well…
Will Sonia forgive Rocky?
Sonia’s perfect family Christmas turned into a nightmare when she learned that Rocky wasn’t her father at all, but rather Dotty’s uncle (aka Tom Cotton).
Sonia and Kathy both disowned Rocky right away, but there are some unmistakable signals that they aren’t fully done with him. When Rocky had another health scare and was rushed back into the hospital, Sonia was given the opportunity to reflect about her situation with Rocky.
Shirley subsequently told Sonia that Rocky still loved her as if she were his daughter and pushed her to reevaluate her long-term goals for their relationship. Could Sonia be persuaded to give Rocky another chance now that he appears to be staying put?
What will Aaron do?
Because his sister Dana was at the club with Bobby on New Year’s Eve, Aaron opted not to detonate the bomb, but as we all know, the story is far from done.
With far-right extremist group leader Neil putting increasing pressure on Aaron, he will make the unsettling decision to lead a job in Manchester instead.
Harvey attempts everything he can to persuade his son otherwise, and the cops will be involved next week, but will this be enough to thwart Aaron’s evil plans?
Are Mick and Linda over for good?
Mick and Linda’s relationship appears to be on the rocks once again, and Christmas does not appear to be the most pleasant time of year for them. The Carters were torn apart after some troublesome intervention from a devious Janine – and not even Nancy’s New Year visit could save them.
Mick has been forced to realize that his marriage may be lost for good now that Linda is back on the drink (bad Janine!). Is that, however, ever the case with the Carters’ steadfast commitment?
Kellie Bright, who plays Linda, is presently on maternity leave after giving birth to her third child and has only returned for a brief appearance, so we won’t know the answer to this question until she returns to filming…
Does Martin still have feelings for Stacey?
When it comes to Stacey and Martin, it often feels like it’s never fully over, much like it is with Mick and Linda.
The couple has been away for a few years, and Martin has had another, albeit unsuccessful, marriage since then (as has Stacey, if we’re being technical), but there have been a few clues that they might yet get back together this year.
Martin was ecstatic when he beat Stacey for the job of marker inspector, but he had a change of heart afterwards. Martin, unbeknownst to his ex, called Mr Lister to deny the position, directing him to Stacey instead. Martin, you’re not fooling us…
Will Nancy give Zack another chance?
After being sent out by his enraged sister Sharon last month, Zack had a lonely Christmas, but things began to look up for him as the New Year neared.
Despite being set up by Janine, Zack was given the opportunity to tell Nancy how much he feels about her and to encourage her to reconsider their relationship.
An intoxicated Linda picked up on their spark during their fatal visit on New Year’s Eve, despite Nancy’s refusal to ruin the foundation she and Zack have rebuilt since the accident. Will Zack continue to battle for Nancy, or will he look for something else to do?
