Joel Deering of Coronation Street has been acting badly lately, but it seems like he might be ready to kill when he “snaps” in future episodes.
A beloved Corrie character could be in for a grim fate at the hands of Joel Deering.
Joel Deering (Calum Lill), who initially appeared as a friendly face on the cobbles, has revealed his sinister side over recent months. It was recently revealed that he was responsible for the disappearance of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).
Joel wormed his way into Lauren’s life after helping her out with bills, eventually coercing her into a sexual relationship.. After a heated argument where Lauren mentioned his fiancee Dee-Dee, he brutally attacked her and left her for dead.
However, after vanishing for several months, Lauren made a surprise return to Weatherfield, disclosing to Joel that she was carrying his child. Since then, Joel has attempted to buy her silence by offering her accommodation in his old flat.
He has also pledged to fund her relocation to Ireland to start afresh, revealing that she would depart on August 12 and he had three weeks to arrange everything,
In a horrifying turn of events, Joel induced Lauren into premature labour by giving her drugs, resulting in the birth of their son last week. Meanwhile, Joel finds himself being extorted by newcomer Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin), the daughter of DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).
Betsy has been pressuring Joel for several weeks after observing his unsettling behaviour towards her friend Sabrina. In Monday’s episode (August 5), Joel discovered that Betsy’s mother is Lisa Swain, leaving him rattled.
In light of recent events, fans are apprehensive that Joel is on the verge of a total breakdown and fear he might murder Betsy next.
This comes after the soap’s spoiler alert confirmed things are heading towards a diabolical turn this week. Betsy corners Joel during this climactic episode demanding £100 from him otherwise she threatens to reveal his secret.
This turns Joel furious, and he grabs her into an alley. Fans rushed to a Corrie Facebook fan page with one viewer stating: “Joel looks worried now he knows who Betsy’s mum is.” Another viewer responded with: “Think he will kill her next he’s frightened she will expose him.” And a third chimed in saying: “Will Joel kill Betsy now in case she blabs to her mum?”.
