BBC EastEnders fans slam show relationship that ‘feels like a mother and son who have ‘no chemistry’

Fans of Eastenders have slammed a relationship on the show, claiming the couple has “no chemistry.” Honey Mitchell and Jay Brown’s pairing does not impress viewers.

Honey sparked with Jay, who was like a son to her ex-husband Billy Mitchell, in the beginning of 2021, and the pair, played by Emma Barton and Jamie Borthwick, got together. The couple, who were once best friends, are now in a relationship with a nearly-18-year age gap.

Fans on a Digital Spy forum have slammed the couple for having “a lot of issues” and looking “icky” together.

Many fans have expressed their displeasure with the couple in the forum titled ‘EastEnders – Honey & Jay.’

Honey has two children, Janet and Will, with Jay’s former (in effect) guardian Billy. After Jay saved Honey from a horrific ordeal when she passed out in an alley, the couple’s relationship blossomed.

In the following episodes, the young man stands by her and shares a kiss with Honey, which Billy witnesses. Jay initially put off the relationship out of respect, but he eventually confessed his feelings, and the two are still together.

Fans, on the other hand, are unconcerned about the pairing, with one commenting on the forum: “However, their relationship has a number of problems. There isn’t even a smidgeon of chemistry. Two pleasant but uninteresting characters dating does not make for interesting viewing.”

Another person wrote: “The pairing, more than anything, suffers from a lack of believable intimacy between the two. COVID has played a significant role in this, but they aren’t even “nice” to each other in the way that new couples are at first, and if they’re lucky, for a short time.”

One even slammed the door: “I can’t believe the show has maintained this relationship for so long. Every time I see them on screen together, I cringe. This is without a doubt one of the worst and most pointless pairings in the history of EE.”

“Jay & Honey need to be split up, sooner rather than later!” one person concluded. One person commented that they “look like a mother and child” in photos of them together.

Similarly, one person stated: “It’s a little creepy because she knew him since he was a baby and was the closest thing he’d ever had to a maternal mother besides Dawn. It’s just as creepy as if Jay hooked up with Dawn. It just doesn’t feel right.”

A disgruntled fan wrote: “One of EE’s best patchwork families has been severely harmed by the Honey-Jay relationship. I’m not sure if it’ll be possible to fix it.”
