Fans can relate to the former EastEnders actress who opened up about her mental health struggles.
Martine McCutcheon, a former EastEnders actress, revealed her mental health struggles on Instagram, saying it has been a “time of struggle” for her recently.
The mother of two discussed the challenges she faces as a young woman in the industry and admitted that she isn’t as ‘tough’ as she would like to be.
Martine, 45, concluded a recent social media post about her health by telling her followers that they are “not alone” and encouraging others not to “lose hope.”
In a heartfelt post on Instagram, she said: “To those who battle with any kind of mental health issue & yet put on their make up, or get up & fight for another day, or try new ways to live, love, & generally work their way through this thing called life – I salute you.
“Sometimes it’s far from easy. I’ve always been pretty open about my health issues – Both mental & physical but there is also so much more to me – So it’s something I’ve touched on rather than focused on.
“I didn’t want any kind of victim label, as I actually feel the opposite of that. I like to think I’m quite a brave person. An optimist. A go-getter & a believer of the good in people.
When asked about her mental health, the actress admitted that she often found it ‘difficult to bounce back.’
“But I’ve had a time of struggle recently. I’m not always as tough as I’d like to be,” she said.
She continued: “I always try & bounce back… And then there are times you just can’t. It’s just harder. Lately, for me, it’s been that bit tougher.”
Many of her supporters left encouraging comments under her post, admitting that her message was relatable.
One person said: “Sending you big hugs and huge kisses always my beautiful”
Another added: “We are alike in so many ways. I swear we are related somehow!! Good post. Life can be tough, January has been especially bad”
A third wrote: “Thanks for that post, Martine, and your honesty. I too have ME and have suffered from chemical depression for years people need to talk about their mental health there shouldn’t be a stigma about it.”
Martine thanked her fans in a second Instagram post later in the day.
She wrote: ” I’ve had THE MOST amazing responses to my last post. Mind BLOWN!”
She added: “It helps to know you aren’t alone doesn’t it? YOU and your comments & DMs have inspired and encouraged me greatly. Thank you.”
