BBC EastEnders: Max Bowden’s life from being bullied in school to one of his co-stars giving him a ‘beard rash’

The star’s career didn’t make him popular in school

Since 2019, Max Bowden has played Ben Mitchell, making him the sixth actor to play the character. Ben has become a budding criminal and is permanently deaf during Max’s tenure.

Away from the screen, Max has had his own set of challenges. When he was cast as Billy Elliot in a 2010 adaptation of the play, he was only 15 years old.

His classmates, on the other hand, were not pleased with his newfound success. He was bullied at school and called “Billy” in reference to the play, according to What to Watch. He became involved in extracurricular activities at school in order to meet people who shared his interests.

Max joined the cast of BBC One’s Waterloo Road in 2014, when he was just 19 years old, and played Justin Fitzgerald for one season. The following year, he appeared in single episodes of both Casualty and Doctors.

His big break came in 2019, when he was cast in his current role as Ben Mitchell on EastEnders. His portrayal of a bad boy on the show earned him an Inside Soap Award for Best Bad Boy. On the show, his character is gay and married to Tony Clay’s character, Callum Highway, but their marriage is on the rocks after a homophobic attack.

When the relationship was at its peak, however, Max admitted to Inside Soap that Tony’s beard was a problem during filming “Tony and I kissed for about two hours in a park – it was a huge bonding experience. By the end of it, we’d both developed beard rash!”

Max has been publicly dating Roisin Buckle since October 2021 in his personal life. His EastEnders co-stars are all for the couple, and he frequently posts lovey-dovey snaps of the two to his Instagram page.

Milly Zero, who plays Dotty Cotton, commented “Babies gonna be fire” on the photo and even entrepreneur and SBTV founder Jamal Edwards, who sadly passed away just a few days ago, wrote “Jeeez go on you two.”
