BBC EastEnders: Patsy Palmer’s life after soap from DJing in California to friendship with iconic supermodel

Long-time viewers of British soap operas often develop attachments to the characters and actors who play them. However, we frequently see these actors opt out of their roles, which can be devastating for many. This was the case for EastEnders characters who had to say their goodbyes to Albert Square.

Patsy Palmer, best known for her portrayal of the feisty Bianca Jackson, falls into this category. For a number of years, the 49-year-old actress has played Bianca on and off. She made her first appearance on the soap in 1993 and stayed for seven years before leaving in 1999.

Fans were ecstatic when she announced her comeback nearly a decade later in 2008, but in 2014, the actress decided to leave permanently. In 2019, she made a cameo appearance.

Patsy moved to the United States with her family as soon as she left Walford in 2014, ostensibly to live out the American dream and soak up the sun.

Patsy lives with her three youngest children Fenton, Emilia, and Bertie, as well as her cabbie husband Richard of 21 years.

Patsy told The Times that the BBC series was ‘all-encompassing,’ and that having some much-needed family time after she left was nice.

She said: “I’d left EastEnders because I’d been there a long time [since 1993], and I was getting offers for other things, TV and film. Then I had my son Fenton, and then Emilia, so it has always been career, kids, career, kids.”

“I never missed EastEnders because it was so all-encompassing, so it was nice to have some family time for a bit. But I did love my time there.”

The 47-year-old actress is also a DJ, which is surprising. Patsy frequently posts photos of herself DJing in Malibu on her Instagram page, which inspires a lot of her fans.

Patsy’s children are friends with Hollywood royalty’s children, and she has crossed paths with supermodel Cindy Crawford.

Her exciting life in the United States with husband Richard Merkell appears to be a far cry from her upbringing in London.
