BBC EastEnders: Ricky Champ’s Albert Square role ten years before landing Stuart Highway

Ricky Martin, the star of Stuart, had a completely different role years before the one for which he is best known.

Ricky Champ has been gracing our screens and stages for years, with roles in blockbuster films and some of television’s most popular shows. The 41-year-old began her career as a stage actor with The Royal Shakespeare Company, where she appeared in plays such as Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet, and Coriolanus.

He appeared in a number of shows after transitioning to television, including Doc Martin, Crims, and Youngers, before landing the role of Stuart Highway. He was best known for his role as Paul Parker in Him & Her before his EastEnders role. In addition, he appeared in two episodes of Game of Thrones as Gatins. He appeared in Edgar Wright’s The World’s End, which starred Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, as well as Paddington 2.

Since taking over the role of Stuart Highway in 2018, he’s been a regular on EastEnders, and he’s been a part of a few major plotlines. He discovers a rash on his body, which necessitates a trip to the hospital and causes him to binge drink. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, he goes into fits of rage. He’s become a well-known figure in Walford.

Fans may be surprised to learn that he appeared in an episode of EastEnders in 2009. Ricky portrayed a photographer who was tasked with photographing Sam Mitchell (Daniella Westbrook), as well as her mother, Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor). He had to rush out of the Queen Vic after offending Sam with a casual remark about her age.

He’s been involved in a lot more important storylines for his character since his return. “I’m so happy to be a part of this brilliant team of people on this great show that I grew up watching,” he said in 2018.

“Look out Albert Square…Stuart’s coming!”

He still performs on stage, and in 2021 he co-starred with Phil Gallagher in Dick Whittingham. He married his wife Samantha Gilbert in 2016 and they have two children. He announced on Twitter that they have one child together and are expecting a second in July.
