Coronation Street legend, 93, in huge update six years after retiring from show

Eileen Derbyshire portrayed Emily Bishop on the ITV soap Coronation Street for 58 years, from 1961 to 2019.

A Coronation Street star’s son has provided an update on his actress mother six years after her last appearance on the show. Eileen Derbyshire, 93, rose to fame as ITV soap legend Emily Bishop, first taking on the role in 1961 before stepping away from acting in 2016. Though she briefly reprised her role in 2019 through a video call appearance, she has largely stayed out of the public eye since retiring.
On-screen, Emily resides in Edinburgh after spending years volunteering in Peru. In reality, Eileen has maintained a very private life, with her son Oliver – a sports journalist – offering a rare insight to fans. Speaking to The Times, he described his mother as “private, and one of the last of a dying breed of old-fashioned actresses who act for the love of it rather than for publicity.” Lately, Oliver has been sharing pieces from his mother’s archive, including old Coronation Street props, cast photos, and a framed collage marking the soap’s 30th anniversary.

He shared on social media: “Back at my mum’s place. Found these packed away. Halcyon days of Coronation Street.” Regarding the collage, he explained: “Still in its wrapping – a photo marking the 30th anniversary of the Street’s beginning.”
A concerned fan asked, “I’m loving these memories, but is your mum okay?” Oliver reassured them, saying, “She’s doing OK. That’s kind of you to ask. She’s 93 now, so she has a few health issues, but she’s well cared for and happy.”
In 2021, Eileen faced personal heartbreak when her husband of 55 years passed away following a battle with Alzheimer’s. Thomas W. Holt met Eileen in 1964, and they made their home in a Cheshire cottage before welcoming their son, Oliver.
Oliver spoke about his father, saying, “Even in the depths of his battle with Alzheimer’s, my dad never forgot Stockport. He longed to return and revisit the places of his youth. At times, he would even ask me for bus fare to make the journey.”
He continued, “By the time I arrived, he was unconscious, but as I sat by his bedside for a while, I told him I’d watched the home game against Sutton United just 10 days earlier.
“I shared that when I took my seat, I made a point of glancing over—just as I always do—toward Section A, where we sat the very first time he took me to Edgeley Park. I told him I could still picture the man in the sheepskin jacket and could still catch the scent of cigar smoke.”

General Hospital Spoilers: How Far Will Jason And Sasha Go To Protect Michael Regarding The Baby?

General Hospital Spoilers and Rumors: The Quartermaine and Scorpio Families’ Dilemma
Spoilers and rumors indicate a pressing question for both the Quartermaine and Scorpio families: How far will Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Sasha Corbin (Sofia Mattsson) go to protect Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) and his baby?
Sasha’s Tense Hospital Encounter
Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) is thrilled after receiving a sonogram of her baby, a moment of joy for her. However, things quickly take a turn when she has a heated argument with Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen) in the examination room, where Willow is briefly serving as Sasha’s nurse. The confrontation escalates, adding more tension to an already complicated situation.
The confrontation has left Sasha feeling unsettled, as she begins to suspect that Willow may be putting the pieces together about Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) being the true father of her child.
Given that Willow has access to Sasha’s medical records and is aware of the baby’s due date, she could easily figure out the timeline of conception, potentially uncovering the truth.
Willow has already pointed out that this situation took place during the rocky period when she and Michael were dealing with her affair with Drew Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison).
Why Is No One Questioning Sasha and Jason’s Alleged “Romance”?
Luckily for Sasha, Willow has already accused her of using Jason during the chaos at the Q mansion to get to his money. But the question remains: can Sasha and Jason continue to keep up this façade? If either of them slips up, Willow might uncover the truth and wouldn’t hesitate to use it against Michael in their ongoing custody battle.
When Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) started loudly declaring in Port Charles that Jason was the father of Sasha’s child, it was strange that no one questioned it.
Though Sasha and Jason have spent a lot of time together over the last year, there was never any indication of a romantic relationship. Yet, no one in their circle seems to find it odd that Jason and Sasha might have shared a brief encounter.
How Far Will They Go to Conceal Michael’s Paternity?
While Jason and Sasha have shared a close friendship, both publicly and privately, there’s been nothing more. Their public appearances together have been sparse, and Jason wasn’t present for the sonogram appointment.
Now, however, Sasha is feeling anxious; after her confrontation with Willow, she’s worried about the chance of Willow or Drew uncovering the truth.

Will this situation shift the dynamic between Jason and Sasha? How far are they willing to go to convince their friends and family that their story is authentic?
It would make sense for Sasha to have Jason accompany her to future doctor’s appointments, as this would be expected from an involved and responsible father.
If Jason attends these appointments, he could update Michael on the baby’s progress, something Michael would surely appreciate; he’s even ensuring Michael receives a copy of the ultrasound.
What Happens After The Baby’s Born? But what about after the birth? Will Jason be there for the birth instead of Michael? Will he assist Sasha with decorating the nursery and support her during recovery? Would he step into the father role with the newborn? It would be emotionally complicated for both Jason and Sasha if Jason took on a fatherly role in the baby’s life.
If this situation persists, it could also be incredibly difficult for the child to later find out that Jason isn’t their biological father. Sasha’s initial plan to raise the baby on her own might have worked if she had left Port Charles, but now she’s unable to avoid involving the families in her life.
Jason will have to play an active role in the baby’s life to maintain the illusion that he’s the father, but it’s important to note that he practically raised Michael himself.
Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth) pretended to be the father of Kristina Corinthos-Davis
Years ago(Kate Mansi) and also adopted Leo Quartermaine (Easton Rocket Sweda), who is actually a Jerome. Leo is Lucas Jones’ (Van Hansis) half-brother, as their father was Julian Jerome (William DeVry), and he is also related to the late Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco). Jason also once pretended to be Michael’s father when AJ Quartermaine (Sean Kanan) was the actual one.
This history of family deceptions might explain why no one is shocked by Jason claiming to be the father of Sasha’s baby. Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) certainly suspects he’s stepping up for Sasha, much like he did for her.
Will this cover story continue to hold up?
The deception seems increasingly fragile, and it may force them to pretend to have a real relationship to keep up appearances, or even go as far as getting married to divert attention from Michael. It seems nearly impossible to maintain this situation without eventually leading to chaos and heartbreak for everyone involved.
Michael has expressed a desire to be involved in the child’s life but also recognizes the complications his relationship with Willow could create.
It seems more likely that Michael will eventually reveal himself as the father rather than Jason and Sasha successfully maintaining the facade that Jason is the biological parent.
Michael’s Struggling Battle With Willow Over Their Kids
Michael is currently facing a tough situation with Willow, especially now that Drew is influencing her decisions. However, he might ultimately decide that coming forward as the father of Sasha’s child won’t hurt his custody case. After all, Willow was the one who cheated first, and her actions since then certainly raise concerns about her ability to be a fit mother.
It would be a shame if Jason and Sasha got so caught up in keeping up appearances that they tried to develop a romantic relationship or even marry just to keep up the illusion. Both of them deserve to experience true love, and Sasha’s child has the right to know their real father, Michael.

General Hospital Spoilers: Jason’s Dire Warning To Carly – 8 Words That Help Her Realize How Dangerous Brennan Is

General Hospital (GH) spoilers suggest that Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) is determined to keep Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) away from Jack Brennan (Chris McKenna).
He sensed danger from the start, and now that Carly was on the brink of losing her life, Jason is even more determined to make sure his best friend ends things with WSB agent Jack Brennan.
Unfortunately, Carly remains stubborn, but could an eight-word warning finally open her eyes to the fact that continuing her relationship with Brennan could lead to even more danger?
Carly Spencer Ignored Her Brother’s Warning
General Hospital spoilers remind viewers that in the March 21 episode, Lucas Jones (Van Hansis) visited Carly and desperately tried to convince her to break things off with Brennan, but Carly stood firm.
After all, despite the fact that just one night with the WSB agent almost cost her her life due to poisoning with polonium, Carly doesn’t see it that way.
Carly acknowledged that Valentin Cassadine’s (James Patrick Stuart) target was Brennan (Chris McKenna), and she was an unintended casualty. However, that doesn’t mean something like this can’t, and won’t, happen again. Even Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) tried to reason with Carly.
There’s a part of Carly that feels she can handle it all, especially after being married to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) for so many years, but as Felicia pointed out, comparing life with Sonny to a relationship with Brennan is like comparing apples to oranges.
Jason Morgan’s Warning
It seems Carly and Jason will have an emotional conversation in the Monday, March 24 episode, as Jason tries to make Carly see things from his perspective. Carly has firmly decided that she doesn’t want to end things with Brennan, despite all the warnings.

Carly will hold firm on Monday, but while Jason won’t walk away from their friendship, he will deliver a seven-word warning that might make her pause: “You may regret keeping Brennan in your life.”
Given that Brennan has brought Carly’s daughter, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy), into the WSB without Carly’s knowledge, Jason’s warning could weigh heavily on Carly when the truth comes to light.
Will Jason’s words make Carly rethink her choices? Share your thoughts below! Tune in to GH on ABC daily for all the latest drama in Port Charles, and check out GHT regularly for the newest General Hospital news and spoilers.

Emmerdale icon says ‘I didn’t expect to still be here’ in ‘privileged’ role

Lucy Pargeter, who plays Chas Dingle on Emmerdale, has reflected on her long tenure with the show, admitting that she “never anticipated being here” after more than twenty years on the soap.

An Emmerdale legend has revealed her surprise at still being part of the show after more than 20 years of drama in the Dales.
In a recent episode of the Off Script… Coronation Street and Emmerdale podcast, hosts Kelvin and Liz Fletcher chatted with Lucy Pargeter, who has been portraying Chas Dingle for an impressive 23 years.
Kelvin highlighted Lucy’s renowned commitment to her work, which she credits to her love for the role, as she shared her thoughts on her enduring position, according to reports from Leicestershire Live.
Lucy expressed feeling “fortunate” to have secured the role, originally joining as a “stripping nun,” and talked about the difficulties she faced. Despite this, she sees the opportunity as a “privilege.”

She shared, “I love my job, and I feel lucky to have it. Every day I go into work, I know I’m fortunate to still be doing this after 23 years, especially since I started out as a stripping nun.
“I never expected to be here this long, for my kids to have a beautiful home, be surrounded by my friends, and face new challenges every day. There’s never a day where I just say, ‘Would you like a pint?’”
She added, “It’s a privilege. I’m so grateful for this job, and I’ll never take it for granted because it could be taken away at any moment.”
Lucy, a long-time star of the beloved soap since 2002, recently opened up about her excitement for performing stunts after a dramatic storyline that saw her character, Chas, take a fall in the Woolpack.

Miraculously, Chas pulled through, but she’s been struggling with persistent back pain ever since, relying on painkillers for relief.
However, rumors have been swirling, with speculation that Ella Forster (played by Paula Lane) may have tampered with Chas’s medication.
In a conversation on the same podcast, Lucy discussed her love for action-packed scenes, recalling how she “did a really great job.”
She shared, “Chas had a little mishap—she’s got a bad back from the limo crash, then she fell through a big hole in the ice, which was fun at 3am. She injured her back, is on painkillers, feeling a bit groggy, and knocks herself out. By the way, I love doing stunts. I think I did a really great job.”
