Coronation Street is famed for its slapstick humor, and one of the upcoming Christmas scenes will feature an inflatable unicorn and an injured pigeon.
Because, after all, why not?
Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) comes to blows with Phill after discovering that he had placed the lips on his ex-girlfriend.
‘There’s a pigeon in the mix — spoiler alert,’ Jennie McAlpine joked. There’s an injured pigeon, and Tyrone is inebriated, so Phil rushes to his mother. He takes it off and puts it on! Fizz and Evelyn, on the other hand, roll their eyes at them in the end.
‘Unless the directors cut it because it’s so silly, but there’s an inflatable unicorn involved,’ said the source.
Jennie, you’re in luck — and so is the crowd. Because the unicorn isn’t the only distinguishing trait.
The moment is part of boss Iain MacLeod’s goal to make the holiday episodes as caring, warm, and funny as possible.
‘It’s actually pretty joyful,’ he told Metro.co.uk. There’s a tradition of soap operas becoming dark and gothic, and we’ve dabbled with it before, but this is a classic Corrie Christmas.
‘It’s amusing, stupid, has a community feel to it, and it’s wonderful.’ It has a more intimate vibe to it than last Christmas, which was considerably stricter. This year is all about the family and having a good time.
‘It has one of the silliest fights I’ve ever seen – a remark is “smell my marigold.” I’ll leave it to you to figure out what that means.
‘I saw it when I wasn’t in the mood for Christmas, and by the end, I had a lump in my throat the size of a mince pie.’ I was crying tears of delight, not tears of sadness; it was a magnificent thing.’
I’m looking forward to it!
