In 2006, Kym Marsh portrayed Michelle Connor on Coronation; however, she graciously left the role to pursue new opportunities in 2019.
ITV actress Kym Marsh revealed that her role as Michelle Connor has been “left open,” suggesting that she hasn’t given up on the cobbles completely. After 13 years on the program, the 48-year-old quit Coronation Street back in 2019 to pursue new opportunities.
Rival soap operas like EastEnders have brought back old faces to reconnect viewers. Bosses decided to bring back Cindy Beale, who is played by Michelle Collins, at the start of the year in a bid to cause a stir.
Kym was a huge character in the show and was part of some iconic storylines. While also being able to channel her own life experiences which saw Michelle go into labour at 23 weeks, resulting in the stillbirth of her baby that she had with Steve Barlow.
The storyline shed light on the couple’s reaction to the loss.
On the Loose Minds podcast, Kym discussed the possibility of a return to Weatherfield. She said: “It was left open, very much so and if the chance and opportunity was to arrive then I could always return if that was what was wanted.
“So yeah, there is always that option for her to go back, unless they kill her off! [Michelle Connor, who left Weatherfield for Ireland in Corrie].
“But there is that opportunity and I mean, I just love that show, I will always love Coronation Street, it’s such a major part of my life.”
Adding that her six years away have flown by: “It’s gone by so fast, my mum would tell you that she thinks I’m a workaholic.”
“But I think the one thing for me that I always feel is very grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given and to be honest, none of us know how long our careers last for,” she shared.
Kym has appeared in several television shows since her departure including The Syndicate and Waterloo Road.
Reflecting on her achievement she hinted that she will return when it feels right as she has already taken on new roles, including playing Nicky Walters in the reboot of BBC’s Waterloo Road.
Kym continued: “One day these job offers won’t come up anymore so I’m of the mind that while they are there take them and I enjoy what I do, I love what I do and I have been given some brilliant opportunities over the years and I’ve ran with them but it has made everything go by in a flash, for sure.”
Recently she has been performing on stage rather than the small screen after touring with 101 Dalmatians The Musical.
The brunette beauty also shared that she has fallen in love once again with her co-star Samuel Thomas a year after the breakdown of her third marriage.
