In recent stories, Callum Lill’s character Joel Deering, who initially showed up on the Street as a fairly normal guy, has been shown to be a deranged solicitor. When it was revealed that he was behind Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) disappearing act, the plot became more complicated.
After initially coming to Lauren’s aid with her financial woes, Joel manipulated her into a sexual relationship before leaving her for dead with a brutal head injury during a row where she mentioned his fiancee Dee-Dee’s name.
Lauren, who had been missing for months, made a shocking return to Weatherfield, dropping the bombshell on Joel that she was carrying his baby. In a bid to keep her quiet, Joel offered her a place in his old flat and even promised to fund her fresh start in Ireland, setting her departure for August 12 and giving himself three weeks to get things in order.
But Joel’s true intentions came to light when he was caught googling “What drugs can induce premature labour?” on his laptop. True to his sinister plan, he gave Lauren the drugs, triggering an early labour.
In the episode aired on Monday (August 5), viewers saw Lauren still in hospital with her newborn son in an incubator, receiving a visit from both Joel and Dee-Dee, after Dee-Dee pushed to see how Lauren was faring.
Corrie enthusiasts are convinced that Dee-Dee is onto her dodgy partner’s dark secrets. Fans on a Coronation Street Facebook group have noted her peculiar interest in Lauren, sparking theories that she’s got the full scoop on her twisted fiancé.
