EastEnders: 15 glaring errors in killer Gray Atkins’ story

In EastEnders, Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) continues to get away with murder.

Gray has also murdered Tina (Luisa Bradshaw-White) and Kush since killing Chantelle (Jessica Plummer) (Davood Ghadami).

Many fans are wondering when Gray’s storyline will end as he builds a new life with baby Jordan and Chelsea (Zaraah Abrahams).

Chantelle’s death aired in September 2020, and since then, observant EastEnders viewers have pointed out numerous flaws in Gray’s plot.

So, to relieve my annoyance at Gray’s continued presence in Albert Square, let’s take a look back at this seemingly never-ending storyline and point out FIFTY times where Gray should’ve been caught red-handed, or where the plot made no sense at all.

Chantelle’s autopsy

Let’s go back to Chantelle’s death and the aftermath.

In case you forgot, Gray pushed Chantelle, resulting in her landing on the dishwasher and some upturned knives.

Chantelle’s family was told her death was a tragic accident in the aftermath.

What about bruises and broken bones, though? Many scenes showed Chantelle with her arm in a sling or bruises on her body – surely someone would’ve noticed the older injuries weren’t caused by her fall, prompting speculation about how Chantelle got the bruises and broken bones?

A tracker in the car

Gray had installed a tracker in their car, allowing him to keep an eye on his wife whenever she used it, as revealed in a scene leading up to Chantelle’s death.

So, why did no one notice this after she died?

Dotty (Milly Zero) made a comment on the tracker when Gray drove to The Arches, providing the perfect opportunity for her suspicions to grow, or make a simple throwaway comment to someone closer to Gray, like Kheerat.

But it never came to pass.

Why didn’t we see Gray dispose of Tina’s body?

Gray wrapped Tina’s body in a blanket and placed it in the trunk of his car after she died.

After that, viewers never saw what happened to her body, leading to widespread speculation that she was still alive.

While Tina’s death has been confirmed, what has Gray done with her body?

Why hadn’t we seen him get rid of it?

No one saw Gray moving Tina’s body

Albert Square isn’t exactly a sleepy little village with deserted streets at night. You’re almost certain to run into at least one person if you leave your house in the evening.

So, how did Gray get away with transporting Tina’s body from her home to her car?

Okay, maybe no one was in the Square at the time, but a glance out a window from a resident, someone taking out the trash, and spotting Gray…

No one noticed him moving a large item from his house to the boot in the dead of night?

Sure.

Tina going off grid isn’t like her – at all

Following the allegation that Tina tried to kill Ian, the Carters have been led to believe she does not want to be contacted (yes, that long ago).

Obviously, Gray made up the story, but it’s ridiculous that a character like Tina would want to ‘disappear’ from the world and stop communicating with Shirley (Linda Henry) and Mick (Danny Dyer).

Isn’t the lack of communication from a family member enough to cause concern for Mick and Shirley?

Where was the CCTV when Kush was killed?

Kush, how I adore you.

Yes, I’m still not over Kush’s final scenes, despite the fact that it’s been months.

Gray pushed Kush in front of an oncoming subway train, and he died as a result.

Yes, the London Underground, a place where CCTV is essential for spotting suspicious behavior or simply ensuring that things are running smoothly.

So, you’re telling me that the CCTV was broken the night Kush died?

Why didn’t the police speak to the train driver after Kush’s death?

The train driver is another major plot hole in the aftermath of Kush’s death.

Police investigated Kush’s death, so speaking with the driver could have been crucial in obtaining information such as how fast he was driving and how long he had been working, as well as giving him the opportunity to speak with someone if needed.

Despite this, there is no mention of the driver.

Did the cops even consider questioning him?

Why weren’t there any staff/members of the public on the platform?

The oddities surrounding Kush’s death continue, and I’m still perplexed as to why no staff members or members of the public were present on the platform where Gray pushed Kush.

Kush, Whitney (Shona McGarty), and Arthur attempted to board one of the last tubes of the evening, but come on, it’s London – the capital – and they were the only three people wanting to board at that time?

What about the employees?

Surely someone would’ve been nearby, overhearing Kush and Gray’s argument at the very least?

Whitney was gone a very long time taking Arthur to the bathroom

Arthur informed Whitney and Kush that he needed to use the restroom just before the train arrived.

Whitney was kind enough to take the young lad to the bathroom, but she was gone for a long time.

Now, I don’t go to London very often, but I know enough about the Underground to know that you won’t have to walk far to find a toilet.

But it appeared that Whitney was eager to walk Arthur to the next stop – hey, the next zone – just so he could use the restroom!

Why was Whitney never questioned after Kush’s death?

Whitney was on trial for murder after stabbing stalker Leo in 2020, as viewers are aware.

Despite the fact that she was acting in self-defense, she faced prison for the crime – so why was she not questioned after Kush’s death?

The police would’ve known Whitney was arrested for murder because of Leo’s death and her time in prison wasn’t exactly years ago – but on this occasion, I guess it slipped their minds completely.

Why are Mitch and Karen still in the dark about Whitney’s discovery?

Okay.

Let’s move on to more recent scenes.

At the end of 2021, Whitney made the horrifying discovery that Gray was responsible for Chantelle’s death.

She’s told Chelsea (Zaraah Abrahams) and Kheerat – but not Mitch (Roger Griffiths) and Karen (Lorraine Stanley) – Chantelle’s parents.

Why?

What exactly is her reason for this?

Why didn’t Chelsea ask for help from Mitch while in the cab?

Chelsea was planning on doing a runner after finding out about Gray.

However, Zack Hudson (James Farrar) realized Chelsea had stolen her overtime money and confronted Gray, much to Kheerat’s chagrin. Gray dug a little deeper and discovered that some of the jewelry was missing, implying that Chelsea had fled.

In order to find Chelsea, the killer went to the cab office and demanded that Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman) provide him with the name of the driver who was taking her to the airport.

Gray called Mitch Baker (Roger Griffiths) when he realized it was him, pleading with him to return Chelsea to Albert Square, claiming she was ill.

Chelsea dozed off in the cab, waking up outside Gray’s house – but surely, after learning your fiancé is a murderer, adrenaline would keep you awake long enough to flee – and realize you weren’t being driven to the airport?

Why did Whitney make the discovery – not Kheerat?

Chantelle grew closer to Kheerat before she died, and she trusted him enough to tell him she wasn’t happy in her relationship with Gray.

Kheerat suspected Gray of being involved in her death after she died.

Wouldn’t it have been more logical for Kheerat to follow up on his suspicions rather than Whitney to wonder if Gray was hiding something?

Right?

The Ring doorbell

Gray showed Chelsea video footage of her leaving the house in an episode that aired this week.

The video footage was captured by a Ring doorbell, and fans are baffled as to why no one has looked at or mentioned the camera footage until now.

Is this on purpose?

Surely there is video evidence of Gray relocating Tina’s body and fabricating an alibi after killing Chantelle?

Is it a new installation?

Why haven’t Whitney and Chelsea told the police they know Gray killed Chantelle?!

Finally, and currently, the most aggravating of them all.

Why haven’t Whitney, Chelsea, or Kheerat informed the cops that Gray murdered Chantelle?

Why is Whitney waiting to catch Gray out herself when she has proof Chantelle was in an abusive relationship?

Given the plot holes I’ve mentioned in this piece, it’s possible Whitney simply believes the cops can’t do their jobs.
