Sonia Fowler, a fan favorite on EASTENDERS, could be leaving the BBC serial in the coming weeks as she plots to flee the conman who claims to be her father, Rocky.
On EastEnders, Sonia (Natalie Cassidy) had a very eventful Christmas when she found Rocky (Brain Conley) wasn’t her father but Dotty Cotton’s (Milly Zero) uncle, Tom Cotton. Despite assisting him when he was brought to hospital with a troubling heart over the New Year, the popular BBC serial character has attempted to avoid him at all costs. However, in the upcoming episodes of the evening serial drama, she may be forced to take dramatic measures to guarantee that he is permanently removed from her life.
In upcoming episodes, Nancy Carter (Maddy Hill) will assist Rocky in learning how to operate a laptop now that he has moved into the Queen Vic.
When Mick Carter (Danny Dyermother, )’s Shirley Carter (Linda Henry), welcomed the conman to live with them, he was not delighted.
So when he finds the man claiming to be Sonia’s father using the laptop, he seizes the opportunity to finally get rid of him.
The tavern landlord chastises the schemer in front of Sonia for watching indecent content on his laptop, which makes the retiree feel quite ashamed.
Despite Mick’s rage, Sonia and Rocky exchange a cheeky smile at the harmless blunder, and it appears they are on the verge of putting the past behind them.
Rocky seeks to make atonement for trying to clean out Dotty’s accounts so she could obtain the inheritance money she thought she was owed.
Sonia, unfortunately for him, is not forgiving of his acts and, despite sharing a grin with him, refuses to let go of his transgressions.
Given the likelihood that Rocky will not be leaving the Square, Sonia may decide that she must be the one to depart.
She could arrange plane tickets to visit her daughter Bex Fowler (Jasmine Armfield) in another nation, although temporarily.
As a result, she may have some time to consider what she wants to do about Rocky and whether they can coexist.
Rocky would be mortified to learn that he’d evicted the single mother from her house, and he’d start to consider his own future on the Square.
Despite Sonia’s best efforts to avoid him, he could remain around for a few months to see her return from her vacation.
With friends in Walford keeping her updated on her status, she may take an extended leave of absence as she comes to terms with the fact that she no longer wants her phony father in her life.
The conman could pack up his stuff and decide to start a new chapter now that he has received the message loud and clear.
Will the mother of one return home, knowing that the schemer may be gone for good, or will she decide that life is too short and start on the journey of a lifetime, free of all her problems?
Brian, the actor who plays Rocky, has revealed that his role has started to feel more like Sonia’s father than he had anticipated.
In an interview, the star of the daytime drama said: “This family, which he has been a part of and which he aspires to be a member of in the future. I believe he has had a heart the entire time, and it doesn’t feel right.
“He’s realizing how beautiful this scenario is, that the man who didn’t have a family before now has one, and he adores them.
“I think he’s trying to be someone else at the birthday party – when it’s not even his birthday – and that watch, when she gives him the watch, it made me so unhappy when I was reading it,” he told Metro.co.uk.
It hasn’t even been a year since the conman first appeared on EastEnders, but in that time he has wreaked havoc on the show.
Even if Rocky were to leave and enable Sonia to return, the frequent reminders of him would be enough to keep her away.
Her neighbors would always sympathize with her for assuming the conman was the father she had never met properly.
Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), Rocky’s lover, would likewise be just across the Square, always wondering what Rocky had made of his life.
There could be nothing left for her in Walford, with none of her original family remaining but her ex-husband Martin Fowler (James Bye).
Could this really be the end for one of the show’s most recognizable characters after two decades on the show?
Natalie, who portrays Sonia, considered leaving the program years ago, but was persuaded to stay by Phil Mitchell star Steve McFadden.

In an episode of Secrets from the Square, Natalie explained: “I remember sitting down with him when I was 18 and contemplating leaving.
“‘Listen, you have no idea what you have here, you don’t want to go, there’s nothing better than this, trust me,’ he added.
“I came back and said, ‘Steve, Steve, I did it’,” she added, before stating: “He said, ‘What have you done,’ and I said, ‘I’m leaving.’ He wouldn’t talk to me.
“And when he says this story he still gets annoyed now, he says, ‘She just never listened to me, she completely ignored my advice’.”
