EASTENDERS fans are eager to see fiery Kat Slater back on screen and with Sharon Mitchell back behind The Queen Vic’s counter, could she quickly call for a helping hand from the former landlady?
EastEnders resident Kat Slater (played by Jessie Wallace) temporarily departed Walford after receiving a panicked phone call earlier this year. The much-loved character rushed off quickly to deal with an urgent matter, leaving behind her partner Kush Kazemi (David Ghademi). But with the BBC soap now off the air for the next few months, there ‘s definitely going to be a lot of change when the characters come back-but could Kat be back and finally come back to Queen Vic now Sharon is in charge?
Kat had a turbulent couple of years on the Square but appeared to have settled in recent months following her blossoming romance with Kush Kazemi. The relationship between the pair has gone from strength to strength and he was the perfect father figure for the Slater brood.
Nevertheless, Kush was left in the care of the kids after Kat was forced to leave Walford earlier this year, and has failed to cope since. From the deteriorating mental health of Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) to the school problems of Tommy (Shay Crotty), Kush has had to mediate some tough circumstances.
But could there now be something sooner than originally planned to lure Kat back if Sharon makes her a tempting offer? The final episode of the BBC soap earlier this week-until filming resumes in the coming weeks-aired the outcome of the bid for Queen Vic.
Viewers had seen Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) desperately regaining control of the iconic pub. He had originally planned to buy the Vic for his estranged wife Sharon, but he was furious when she revealed she would choose her son Kayden.
Phil told Sharon that she was “done” to him and so he began his preparations with Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) to secure the buy. When his devoted wife Linda (Kellie Bright) discovered how Phil had treated Sharon, however, she warned her husband not to sell him the pub.
Earlier this week, viewers were patiently waiting for the ultimate surprise to see who will buy the bar and the outcome was priceless. Sharon ‘s oldest mate-Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt)-turned out to have had his hands on the Vic with minutes to spare.
Of course, it’s well known that he’s going to do everything to make Sharon happy and those watching were delighted to see her back behind the counter once again. Phil knew that his scheme had been foiled in the last shot of Tuesday night’s show-so how would Queen Vic feel under new ownership?
Sharon will need some helping hands behind the bar and Kat-who has a lot of history with the pub-is one such person she could turn to. Long-term viewers will remember that Kat and her ex-husband Alfie Moon (Shane Ritchie) used to run the bar in the 2010s after Phil had asked them to come back and take a grip on things.
However, it wasn’t the first time that Kat had worked there, as she started her journey off at the same place when she arrived on the soap back neatly 20 years ago. Kat has years of outstanding punters experience, but should she now come back to her previous job upon her return, which is due to come later this year?
Sharon will need a firm hand to help run the pub, as she has no support from a large family like the Carters did when they arrived in 2013. So, will she get Kat’s help to help keep things up and running when she comes back?
