Dotty Cotton from EastEnders will be found unconscious next week, following her recent struggles with heavy drinking following the Christmas Day bombshell.
Actress Milly Zero has revealed to Digital Spy just how bad Dotty’s mental state is right now, and teases that things could get even worse for her, tying it back to her family history.
“She doesn’t care about herself,” Zero told us. “She doesn’t care about her life right now.
“She’s just trying to destroy everything because she believes it’s already broken.” I think it’s really sad, especially because we’ve seen Nick’s addiction problems and her mother’s addiction problems. ‘I will never be that,’ Dotty has always vowed to herself. That is never going to be me.’ But then we get a sense of, ‘Oh my God, maybe she’ll follow in her parents’ footsteps?’
“Unfortunately, that does happen in real life. So I believe that raising awareness about issues such as the child of an addict, and what happens in some cases, is very important. That, I believe, could be an interesting path for her to take.
“It’s not safe to be a young girl, paralyzed, on the streets of the East End at night.” It’s quite sad to see her there, and she doesn’t seem to mind what happens. However, we do see that some of her friends from the Square come to her aid, which is nice.
“It’s fortunate that she has those people with her. She is unappreciated in the world. She has the impression that no one is looking out for her, which is a very lonely place to be.”
If they went down that path, the star stated that she could follow in Nick’s footsteps and develop a substance addiction, adding that “as an actor, I would feel really honoured to explore that topic.” In any case, she teases that “there’s a long way to go” with Dotty’s storyline.
Hopefully, Dotty’s closest friends and family will recognize her dark state and be able to help her, but will she let them?
