Emmerdale backlash: Meena Jutla storyline sparks complaints for ITV soap

ITV viewers have complained to the Ofcom about Meena Jutla’s return storyline on EMMERDALE.

Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu), the Emmerdale villain, has been apprehended by the police and is awaiting trial for the murder of Ben Tucker (Simon Lennon). Although they have yet to find evidence linking Meena to the deaths of Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale) and Leanna Cavanagh, the nurse admitted to accidentally killing Ben (Mimi Slinger). However, in this week’s episode of the ITV soap, Liam (Jonny Cavanagh) discovered Meena’s trinket box, which contained items from her victims.

Viewers have been eagerly anticipating Meena’s reveal for months, and many have expressed their displeasure with how long the storyline has been dragged out.

Last month, Ofcom received a slew of complaints about the villain’s plot.

Fans reacted angrily to Meena’s attempted murder of her own sister Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) and Vinny Dingle on the soap (Bradley Johnson).

Liam eventually caught her out, and she managed to flee after chasing her through the woods.

However, the television watchdog has confirmed that 76 viewers complained about the episode that aired on Tuesday, February 15.

Meena kidnaps both Billy (Jay Kontzle) and Dawn (Olivia Bromley) in this episode, holding them at gunpoint.

Meena told the newlyweds to choose which of them she should shoot after driving them to the middle of nowhere.

After the couple failed to show up for their own reception, the couple’s wedding guests became concerned.

“Someone told me that real love is when you’re prepared to stand in front of someone and take a bullet for them,” Meena began.

“Why are you doing this?” Dawn asked before Meena replied: “I know, anyone in their right mind would never have come back.

“I am truly my own worst enemy.” Make a choice, Billy. That’s what I want you to do.

“Either you save yourself or Dawn, because only one of you is going to make it out alive today.”

Meena became enraged as Dawn taunted the killer, retorting, “You are either really brave or really stupid.”

Billy attempted to defuse the situation by convincing Meena that he would leave with her to be with her.

Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) decided to leave the wedding party later in the episode in the hopes of finding the couple.

Meena, on the other hand, was holding them at gunpoint.

Meena turned the gun on Dawn as she pressed her against a bridge wall at the end of the episode.

“Any last words for your wife?” she asked Billy before the newlywed pleaded: “Meena, I am begging you.”

“Billy, I love you,” Dawn told him as Leyla crawled out of the car.

Dawn was able to gain control and knock the killer to the ground as a result of the distraction.

Dawn screamed as she punched Meena in the face, “I’m going to kill you!”

“It’s over, she’s done,” Billy added before Dawn shouted: “If she dies no one would miss her.”

Meena then proceeded to inform Dawn that her son Lucas had gotten himself into some trouble. “It won’t be just me who dies today,” she teased.
