Emmerdale: Gemma Atkinson on real reason she has chosen not to return to ITV soap

After explaining why she chose not to return now, Gemma Atkinson hinted that she will return to Emmerdale in the future.

This week, Gemma will return to Hollyoaks to reprise her role as Lisa Hunter, 16 years after her last appearance.

However, Gemma, who starred as Carly Hope in Emmerdale from 2015 to 2017, has revealed why she will not be returning to the ITV soap anytime soon.

Gemma Atkinson has hinted at a future return to Emmerdale.

In an interview with OK! Magazine, he said: Gemma was asked if she would be interested in doing another soap.

“Emmerdale has mentioned me going back,” she told the publication, “but with soaps, the thing that people don’t realize is that the cast and crew work very long hours.”

“One of the things I like about my radio job is that I know I’ll get home every day.” I can plan my family life and work around being a mother.

“Perhaps when Mia is a little older, I’ll think about it,” she continued, “but right now it’s not practical, especially with Gorka doing so much touring.”

Gemma has revealed that her return to Hollyoaks will be brief, but that she will play an important role in Zara Morgan’s new story.

What happened to Carly Hope in Emmerdale?

After a nine-year absence, Carly Hope returned to Emmerdale in 2015. Rebecca Ryan, who currently plays Lydia on Coronation Street, handed over the role to Gemma.

Carly had a baby in 2012, which was revealed during her time in the village. Billy, however, died of Sudden Unexplained Infant Death just one month after his birth.

Carly soon began dating Marlon Dingle and became close to his daughter April.

Their relationship, however, did not last, and she left in 2017 with her ex-boyfriend Matt.
