Emmerdale star Fiona Wade discusses possible romantic future for Priya and Ellis

Emmerdale’s Fiona Wade has spoken out about her character Priya Kotecha and her on-again, off-again love interest Ellis Chapman’s uncertain future.

During the October survival adventure challenge episodes, Priya and Ellis (Aaron Anthony) were seen growing closer once more. Their developing love, however, came to a halt when Priya was burned in the corn maze fire.

Priya had pushed Ellis away and stated that they cannot be together while she concentrates on her rehabilitation.

In scenes that aired over the holidays, Ellis’ focus begins to return to his ex-girlfriend Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper). Priya is sad when she sees them together, fearing that she has forever lost her opportunity with Ellis.

Fiona said of Priya and Ellis’ future in an interview with Digital Spy and other media: “Priya’s current partner, Ellis, is unlike any of her prior lovers.

“She’s always had that alpha male, a high-flying businessman who is a little egotistical. What binds them together, I believe, is the fact that Ellis is a wonderful guy who is truly extremely honest and wants to do the right thing by her.

“I believe they have genuine feelings, but life continues coming in the way for them, which is quite unfortunate.

“I usually joke that this is a soap opera, so I’m not sure if there are any happy-ever-afters, but I do enjoy working with Aaron Anthony, who is fantastic.

“It would be great if Priya was happy and found love again and it lasted, but who knows?”

Priya attempts to take a step forward in her recovery by watching her daughter Amba’s Christmas carol performance on Thursday’s Emmerdale episode. When the experience gets too much for her, she rushes out and leaves Amba alone.

“I’ve received an incredible feedback,” Fiona said of the popular response to Priya’s plot. Actually, I’m grateful to everyone since everyone has been so lovely.

“It’s been a different story for Priya, which has been really good. They’ve been so wonderful about it all, saying that it’s all been conveyed really well and they’ve felt so sorry for Priya.

“I think it’s really important to have this story out there and for people to be more aware of what burns survivors go through. It’s been a wonderful challenge, but it’s been great to play.”
