In Emmerdale, Liam Cavanagh’s (Jonny McPherson) life was turned upside down in 2021.
Liam spent the better part of last year in a hole of sadness and overwhelming grief after losing his daughter Leanna (Mimi Slinger), aka the ‘light of his life,’ in tragic circumstances.
When Liam’s wife Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) purchased him an allotment near the end of 2021, he smiled for the first time in months.
Liam utilizes his time on the allotment to feel closer to Leanna by tending to his fruit and vegetables and making a fantastic bird house.
Away from the allotment, Liam recently interrupted Meena (Paige Sandhu), who was in the middle of fabricating a bogus prescription, at the surgery.
Liam, being the nice and kind person that he is, was curious about Meena’s situation.
Meena informed Liam that she had recently experienced a miscarriage and required medication to help her cope.
Liam gave Meena three weeks of diazepam because he was worried about her.
Meena is continuing using the drugs to drug Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker), who is being held hostage, unbeknownst to the doctor.
Meena has no idea that Liam has discovered there is no medical documentation of her pregnancy or miscarriage as she pursues her plan to murder her sister.
Continuing to be oblivious to Meena’s true identity, Liam begins to be concerned for her, fearing that his friend is going through something dreadful, as Jonny McPherson recently told maiil.online:
‘Once Meena mentions the false pregnancy and Liam realizes it was a hoax, he begins to suspect Meena of having major mental health difficulties.’ He’s well aware that this is coming from the mind and tongue of someone who is going through a difficult time for whatever cause.’
Villagers have had unpleasant brushes with Meena in the past. Priya (Fiona Wade), Amy (Natalie Ann Jamieson), and Noah (Jack Downham) have all worried if their next-door neighbor is concealing something, but Liam hasn’t.
‘He’s not the least bit suspicious,’ Jonny adds.
‘All he feels is a sense of doctorly obligation.’ Also, keep in mind that Meena is a friend and colleague of Liam’s, so he has no idea what she’s done to his daughter. During the immediate aftermath of Leanna’s death, she was a terrific shoulder to weep on and a confidant; he truly feels like she’s a close friend and wants to do everything possible for her.’
Liam got intoxicated at the surgery party during the holidays and was driven back to the B&B by Meena.
Because he can’t recall anything, Liam has come to accept Meena’s account of events (Liam was very drunk and came onto her, but nothing happened between them).
Meena will once again turn the screws on Liam in scenes showing this week, threatening to accuse him of abusing her.
Despite his astonishment and shock, Liam continues to handle the matter as a concerned friend — the possibility that Meena has a darker side does not even cross his mind.
‘At first, Liam is afraid that the truth will come out and damage his marriage, which has already been put under a lot of hardship. Everything he perceives as a doctor, from the fraudulent prescription to the discovery of the miscarriage lie to turning the story against him.
‘Liam has no recollection of anything since he was utterly bladdered.’ As Billy Connolly would say, “trousered.” I’m completely unable to recall anything at all.
‘Everything comes as a complete shock, which gives Meena an advantage against him because she remembers what really happened while he doesn’t’.
