Emmerdale will reveal who the new owners of The Woolpack are next week, after the village pub was sold in a tense auction.
Following Al Chapman’s (Michael Wildman) devious plan to take over the pub and replace it with luxury flats, as well as the devastating explosion on Christmas Day, current owners Chas (Lucy Pargeter) and Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) have been forced to sell their beloved pub.
Kim Tate (Claire King) picks up an auction catalogue the following week and begins leafing through it. Will Taylor (Dean Andrews), Kim’s fiancé, quickly deduces that Kim is most likely planning to purchase The Woolpack.
Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) is devastated when she hears the news and is faced with the difficult task of telling Chas. When Chas learns that Kim might be interested in the pub, she erupts in laughter.
When Chas admits that losing the pub will break her heart, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), who had previously irritated Chas with his interference over the issue, becomes determined to put things right.
As the auction day approaches, Chas initially refuses to participate, unwilling to witness Kim snatching her pub. Paddy Dingle (Dominic Brunt), her husband, is disappointed to see his wife so defeated by the situation.
However, Charity strikes a nerve with Chas, inspiring him to attend the auction after all, making Paddy happy that she isn’t going down without a fight.
As the auctioneer prepares to begin the bidding, the Emmerdale villagers are tense at the Auction House.
Cain’s hand shoots up and he makes a bid for the pub just as the auctioneer is about to sell the Woolpack to the highest bidder. Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) is worried, but she’s relieved when Cain is quickly outbid by an anonymous online bidder.
As the auction draws to a close, the pub is sold to an online bidder, and Marlon and Chas are eager to learn who the new Woolpack owner is.
Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter) tries unsuccessfully to obtain the buyer’s name from the auctioneer, but she is told that they want to meet Marlon and Chas in person.
Chas is concerned about the identity of the mystery buyer – who has taken over the village’s iconic pub?
Despite the pub’s recent troubles, Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw recently told Digital Spy and other media that “we’re going to see a shiny new Woolpack emerge this year, and the fight for who’s going to control it will definitely be on.”
