Emmerdale Windsor family now – pop career, Hollywood son-in-law and co-star romance

The Windsor family, which includes husband and wife Viv and Vic Windsor, as well as their three children Donna, Kelly, and Scott Windsor, is one of Emmerdale’s most well-known families.

Deena Payne, who played Viv Hope/Vic Windsor in Emmerdale until her tragic death in 2011, recently wowed fans with throwback photos of herself when she was younger.

The star appeared to be unrecognisable in her previous life as a member of the singing sensation Cats UK, with clips showing the band performing their number one song Luton Airport on television.

In 2010, she said in response to a question about her past: “An advertisement for a girl group called Cats UK appeared in 1978. I auditioned because I had experience in musical theatre and was hired to sing at Luton Airport.”

The throwback photos sparked outrage among fans, prompting Daily Star to investigate where Deena Payne and her fellow Windsor Family co-stars are now.

Vic Windsor – Alun Lewis

By the time he joined Emmerdale, actor Alun Lewis had already made a name for himself on British television, having appeared in shows such as Birds Of A Feather, Boon, The Bill, and Minder.

He also had chart-topping success as a member of the Emmerdale country band The Woolpackers, who had a top ten hit with Hillbilly Rock, Hillbilly Roll and released a popular line-dancing album.

Following his departure from Emmerdale, the actor continued to work in short films, with his most recent credit appearing in the 2017 TV film The Watcher In The Woods.

Alun’s personal life included a marriage to actress Anette Ekblom, with whom he had a daughter.

His daughter, Hollywood actress Amelia Warner, has starred in blockbuster films such as Aeon Flux and Gone, as well as the TV series Waking The Dead, proving that acting talent runs in the family.

Alun also has a famous son-in-law, as his daughter is married to Jamie Dornan, who plays Jamie Dornan in 50 Shades of Grey, The Tourist, and Belfast.

Viv Windsor – Deena Payne

When Deena Payne joined Emmerdale in 1993, she played Vic Windsor before marrying Bob Hope.

Following Vic’s death in the post office explosion in 2011, the actress’s departure from the soap left fans heartbroken.

The actress has also starred in television shows such as Crime Stories and, most recently, Doctors in 2020.

Deena had a secret singing career touring with The Animals keyboard player Alan Price before rising to fame as one of the soap’s most iconic characters.

In 1979, she had a Top 30 hit with the song Luton Airport as part of the group Cats UK.

Her musical ties also extend to her personal life, as her ex-husband was percussionist Frank Ricotti, who has performed with celebrities such as Elton John.

“My husband was a lovely man, Frank Ricotti, a very well-known percussionist who played with Elton John,” she told The Mirror about her first marriage. I simply desired my independence. It was a classic situation – I was far too young to be married.

“We’re still friends, but I wanted to go off and see the world back then, so I just changed gears and moved out.”

Deena later married Steve Grant, a musician and member of The Sweet band, with whom she has a son, William.

Scott Windsor – Toby Cockerell and Ben Freeman

Toby Cockerell was the first actor to play Scott Windsor, Vic Windsor’s son, from 1993 to 1996, before Scott left the soap to join the army.

Toby Cockerell, on the other hand, has continued to act, appearing in TV shows such as One Tree Hill and theatre productions such as Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

He now works as a Product Manager for his make-up artist wife Zoe Rene’s company, according to reports.

Between 2000 and 2002, he was married to Lindsay Zir.

Following Scott Windsor’s return to the soap in 1998, Ben Freeman took over from Toby Cockerell, who had become embroiled in major stories such as an affair and fathering a child with Zoe Tate.

Ben Freeman has since had on-screen success in TV series such as Doctors and appeared in the 2018 film Solo after leaving Emmerdale in 2008.

He also appeared in theatre productions such as Wicked, Legally Blonde, and Dreamcoats and Petticoats, alongside X Factor singer Diana Vickers, in the UK tour of The Rocky Horror Show in 2016, as well as in Wicked, Legally Blonde, and Dreamcoats and Petticoats.

He also had a rival soap role in EastEnders in 2021, when he appeared as Caleb, an old acquaintance of Chelsea Fox, on Albert Square.

Fans were overjoyed to see the actor return to a soap, with one commenting on social media, “Well Ben Freeman has aged well since Emmerdale!”

A second added: “Oh Scott Windsor from Emmerdale got hot.”

He also dated Amy Nuttall, an Emmerdale co-star, for four years before marrying Jennifer Biddall in 2010.

Kelly Windsor – Adele Silva

Adele Silva, who has returned to the role of Viv and Vic’s daughter Kelly Windsor in Emmerdale for cameo appearances over the years, played Viv and Vic’s daughter Kelly Windsor.

Kelly Windsor was played by her from 1993 to 2011. She made her acting debut in the Doctor Who story Squeak in 1989.

Since then, she has appeared in films such as How To Stop Being A Loser and We Still Kill The Old Way, as well as television shows such as Casualty.

Adele also appeared in a rival soap as Angela Brown in Hollyoaks in 2015, which delighted fans.

Despite her huge screen success, the actress slammed the soap industry’s snobbery towards soap actors in 2020, after a self-tape for an audition was labeled “too soapy.”

In a tweet, she said: “Interesting feedback from a selftape I really wanted to get – too soapy?! What even does that mean?

“Too much Pantomime, too much musical theater? I haven’t played Kelly in ten years and still have to deal with this.

“Even though I’ve attended a variety of acting schools, there is still a snobbery towards certain soap actors. I’m not bitter because some of my favorite actors are from soap operas, but when will this snobbery end?!”

Away from the spotlight, the actress is married to Oliver Farber and has one child with him.

Donna Windsor – Sophie Jeffrey and Verity Rushworth

From 1993 to 1997, actress Sophie Jeffrey portrayed Donna, one of the Windsor family’s children.

Sophie has since left the soap and acting in order to focus on her education, according to reports.

From 1998 to 2009, actress Verity Rushworth played Donna Windsor, who saw the character arrive in the village with her young daughter April, fall in love with Ross Barton, and die tragically in 2009.

Verity Rushworth has delighted fans in theatre productions such as Hairspray, Chicago, and Annie since leaving Emmerdale in 2009, as well as taking over from Connie Fisher in The Sound of Music.

She also flaunted a stunning hair transformation for her role in the musical Kinky Boots in 2017, which saw her go blonde for the part.

The transformation wowed fans, with one saying on social media: “Love the hair,” while a second added: “Looking good girl.”

Between 2020 and 2021, Verity had a recurring role as Lily Walker in the BBC soap Doctors.

In her personal life, she is married to Dominic Shaw, with whom she has a daughter, Amelie, who was born in 2016. They have two children together.
