In upcoming scenes on the ITV soap, EMMERDALE favourite Rhona Goskirk will face someone from her past, but this storyline could see her linked to Pierce Harris in more ways than just as his ex-wife.
Rhona (Zoe Henry) is about to take center stage in a new Emmerdale storyline when she is contacted by Pierce (Jonathan Wrather) from prison, who informs her that he is dying and wants to contact his estranged son, Marcus Dean (Darcy Grey). The beloved villager has been through hell and back with the ITV soap villain, and the last thing she wants to do is think about him any more than she already has. However, it has been revealed that the weeknight serial drama will soon introduce her mother, Mary Goskirk, who will be played by Louise Jameson, a stage and screen actress, so the vet will have a lot on her plate. Could she find out that the newcomer is Pierce’s ex-wife in a shocking twist?
According to The Mirror, the new character will ruffle some feathers in the village once she reconnects with her daughter and becomes a regular presence.
As they look to the future, it will be clear that Rhona and Mary have a lot to work through, but they may have to go back in time to do so.
If we go back a few years, it’s possible that the newcomer and Pierce were married for a short time and had Marcus together.
The villain would have walked out on his ex-wife and divorced the child when the child was very young, and then met Tess Merton (Nicola Stephenson).
He would not have known, however, that after her death, he would meet Rhona, his first wife’s daughter, who would be his undoing.
Mary’s connection to Pierce may not be obvious at first, but everything could be revealed when she runs into Marcus in the village while out with Rhona.
Rhona would be perplexed because the heartthrob refers to the newcomer as his mother, and she would believe he is playing games.
However, based on Mary’s expression, it appears that she is the mother of both of them and that she is Pierce’s ex-wife.
After believing she had finally gotten rid of the villain after searching for his son, the vet would be overcome with emotion, believing she would have ties to him for the rest of her life.
Will she be able to forgive her mother for keeping the secret from her, or will this be the final straw in their marriage?
Louise, the actress who will play Mary, has been a member of the cast since the first episode of the weeknight serial drama aired in 1972.
Sharon Crossthwaite was her character, and she became the show’s first murder victim when she was killed off by Jim Latimer (Myles Reitherman) after only four episodes.
Louise is bringing a touch of nostalgia to the show, but in a very different role, as the soap celebrates its 50th anniversary later this year.
Speaking about returning to the Dales, the soap star told The Mirror: “It feels like such a gift to be welcomed into the Emmerdale cast.
“Playing Zoe’s on-screen mum is the icing on the cake.”
“It’s great to have such a high calibre and talented actor [such as Louise] join our already strong team, and she will be a fabulous asset to the show,” producer Laura Shaw said of Mary’s arrival.
“Mary, who is intelligent, witty, and complex, promises to be a force to be reckoned with in the village, and there will never be a dull moment for Rhona as long as her domineering mother is around.”
There will be some twists and turns in the story, according to an unnamed source, as the story’s threads of Rhona’s past come together.
The insider said: “No nonsense Mary has a strained relationship with her daughter who has always felt she was never good enough for her mother.
“Though Mary will prove a hit with everyone she meets in the village, will she be able to repair her broken relationship with Rhona?”
Although no date has been set for Mary’s arrival in the village, the casting has been announced, so the drama will begin soon.
If she has some sort of connection to Pierce, the mother and daughter will have to sit down and talk about their time married to him.
Rhona discovered that her mother had been through a similar ordeal to herself, and that Pierce had been abusive to her as well.
The vet felt a pang of rage towards her mother, as if she had known about Pierce earlier, she might not have suffered at Pierce’s hands.
With his death looming, they might as well bury the hatchet and promise to leave him in the past where he belongs.
Executive producer Jane Hudson teased Mary’s arrival as someone from Rhona’s past who would rear their head in an interview with Express.co.uk and other media earlier this year.
The soap boss said: “There will also be someone else new in Rhona’s life appearing but I’m not telling you that one!
“Rhona’s going to be having two new characters appearing in her life,” she explained, with one of them being Marcus.
Could this, however, be a hint that they are brother and sister, and that the revelation will forever change Rhona’s life?
