Gemma Oaten health: Emmerdale star recently nearly died – ‘my body was poisoning itself’

Gemma Oaten, a former Emmerdale actor, has disclosed that she recently came dangerously close to passing away due to “dangerously high” calcium levels in her body. On ITV’s Lorraine, the soap opera star talked openly about her near-death experience. Really, this whole thing happened just two months ago, she remarked.

Oaten said her life-threatening condition was years in the making, however.

She said, “To be honest, I hadn’t been feeling well for a long, but I didn’t follow my own advice and just put it aside.

“We experienced a significant funding reduction at the charity where I serve as CEO, and I attributed it to stress and pressure from that. I attributed my sickness and fatigue to the fact that I was working a full-time job and hosting a morning radio show, getting up at half past four, and then going to auditions.

The actress also occasionally had “stomach cramps,” which she attributed to stress and anxiety.

Then Oaten obtained Covid, which, according to her, “unearthed this significant renal disease that I had dubbed milk-alkali syndrome.”

Oaten claimed that Sean Connery’s dementia had a “devastating effect” on the Bond actor, but she had been deteriorating for years.

High levels of calcium in the body are a symptom of milk-alkali syndrome.

Oaten learned at the hospital that it was the result of years of consuming excessive amounts of calcium carbonate from taking too many Rennie tablets.

The Emmerdale star responded to a question about why she was taking so many Rennie pills: “Since I was ten years old, I have had anorexia. I battled bulimia for 13 years after developing anorexia.”

The soap diva continued to take Rennie tablets “every single day” until she recovered.

She attributes this to the psychological effects of her eating disorder and the harm her bulimia caused to her oesophagus.

Due to my acid reflux, I used to take Rennies every single day.

The soap actor continued, “I started taking those because I was so afraid of relapsing and becoming sick.

About four weeks before checking herself into the hospital, the soap star began taking magnesium because “once again I felt exhausted agitated and there is calcium carbonate in magnesium supplements.”

Despite the fact that “my calcium levels increased to a dangerously high point,” Oaten said she had “no clue” that anything was going on.

My body was essentially poisoning itself.

The soap star continued by admitting that she was unaware that anything was wrong until the ambulance arrived.
