Home and Away actress Sarah Roberts, after losing two close family members and enduring two miscarriages with her husband James Stewart, endured a disastrous 18 months.
But on Thursday, the 35-year-old actress thanked her caring family for helping her recover – admitting that she would love nothing more than to introduce James’ daughter, an eight-year-old scout, to her little brother or sister in the new year.
Sarah told Australia Women’s Weekly when asked what they were hoping for in 2021: ‘A new life will be the greatest gift my husband could give me.
‘New life in my belly, and a brother or sister for Scout.’
Over the past year, speaking about her grief process, she added:’ Lockdown gave us the room and time to process everything we were hit with.’
In October 2019, after a 15-year struggle with brain cancer, Sarah lost her child, Karl De Abrew, tragically.
He died just three months after walking her down the aisle at her wedding at Luttrellstown Castle on the outskirts of Dublin with James, 45.
The ceremony was held in Ireland, where Karl lived, because because of his illness, he was unable to fly abroad.
Sarah faced more tragedy on Mother’s Day this year after losing her beloved grandma.
She also announced at about that time that she and James had suffered two miscarriages in the past year.
But family was Sarah’s saving grace – and recently, after being her step-mother when the couple married, Sarah revealed how much Scout meant to her.
Talking to Nova’s How To How To Life podcast, she said that Scout had become her main focus, from James’ previous relationship with Packed to Rafters star Jessica Marais.
‘I wanted to be a stable adult in her life and unless it was going to be a healthy place for Scout, we didn’t want to bring it up or make it public,’ she said.
‘She teaches me so much and I feel like I do a lot of teaching her. Finally, I know that someday our time will come and we can send her a brother or a sister.’
