EastEnders star Danny Dyer teased “best story ever” of Mick Carter when the show comes back later in the year. The series is currently on a hiatus, leaving viewers on a cliffhanger about the future of Mick and Linda, after running out of regular episodes to record. A big surprise revealed Sharon Watts as the current owner of The Vic, after a decision by the Carter family to sell up and start anew elsewhere.

Danny Dyer and Kellie Bright, respectively as Mick and Linda, joined Stacey Dooley in last night’s first episode of EastEnders: Mysteries of the Square-a spin-off intended to fill the void when the BBC soap is off the air. Teasing what fans can hope to see when the series actually comes back, Danny said: “In fact, like the rest of the world, we ‘re all going to come out of the lockout in the film.” Though Kellie added: “Mick and Linda have some hard times left.”

Dropping another big hint, Danny added: “I think I might possibly get the best story I’ve ever seen on the series when we come out of the lockout.” Danny also talked about landing the part as landlord Mick seven years ago, during his chat with Stacey. “I had been acting for a long time but then the wheels began to fall off,” explained Danny.

“I made some bad choices but now I’m more well-rounded and grounded. I couldn’t get any work so I was earning money from doing PAs in nightclubs and waving from a balcony. “I was like ‘Oh my God, I can actually save my career here’ when I got the call from EastEnders. I thought I was going to play a gangster but then I found out that he was this alpha male character who wore a pink dressing gown and really loved it.”

EastEnders will air this iconic two-hander on BBC One tonight between Den and Angie Watts at 7.30 pm.
