The 2020 Inside Soap Awards nominees have been announced, with Coronation Street leading the pack after her husband Geoff’s brutal assault by Yasmeen.

The hard-hitting storyline has landed nominations for Best Show-Stopper, Ian Bartholomew’s Best Villain and Best Actor and Shelley King’s Best Actress, who wowed fans with her appearance in scenes that saw her fight back against her abusive husband.

Jessica Plummer of EastEnders, who is now starring in the jungle of I’m A Star, also received a nomination for Best Actress after her cruel husband Gray violently murdered her character, Chantelle Atkins.

As it portrayed the hard-hitting theme of authoritarian domination, Corrie made headlines, as Yasmeen found herself increasingly isolated by her husband Geoff and belittled.

Before being jailed for the murder, the drama saw Yasmeen fight back against her husband, with fans enthusiastically expecting Geoff’s comeuppance when the trial starts next month.

Hollyoaks‘ Jennifer Metcalfe (Mercedes McQueen) and Emmerdale’s Natalie J Robb (Moira Dingle) are both fighting it out for the Best Actress title.

Best Actor sees Hollyoaks go head-to-head with Ashley Taylor Dawson (Darren Osborne), Corrie’s Ian, Jeff Hordley (Cain Dingle) of Emmerdale, and Max Bowden (Ben Mitchell) of East Enders.

In the Best Villain race, Star Ian also received a nomination, going up against Hollyoaks’ Bobby Gordon (Toby Faroe), Mark Womack (DI Mark Malone) of Emmerdale, and Toby Alexander Smith (Gray Atkins) of EastEnders.

When Gray murdered his wife Chantelle by brutally throwing her into a dishwasher following months of physical and psychological violence, fans were reduced to tears.

Meanwhile, alongside Jessamy Stoddart (Liberty Savage), EastEnders actress Lorraine Stanley (Karen Taylor), and Corrie veteran Maureen Lipman (Evelyn Plummer) from Hollyoaks, Emmerdale’s Lisa Riley (Mandy Dingle) is up for Funniest Results.

A variety of much-loved pairings are nominated for Best Partnership; Corrie’s Dolly-Rose Campbell and Sam Aston (Gemma Winter and Chesney Brown), and Imran Adams and Ross Adams (Mitchell Deveraux & Scott Drinkwell) from Hollyoaks.

EastEnders pair Kellie Bright and Danny Dyer (Linda and Mick Carter) and Lucy Pargeter and Dominic Brunt (Emmerdale) from Emmerdale are joining them.

As usual, Best Show-Stopper honours some of the most jaw-dropping soap scenes.

In the case of Emmerdale, after their brutal fight on a lake, it was the moment Cain learned Nate was his long-lost sibling.

For EastEnders, marking its 35th anniversary was the epic riverboat tragedy of the soap, while for Hollyoaks it was the time that serial killer Breda McQueen got her comeuppance.

After weeks of violence by stabbing him with a shattered glass, Corrie’s Show-Stopper was the moment Yasmeen struck back against Geoff.

In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, Inside Soap launched a whole new award this year, Best Feel-Good moment, with EastEnders receiving a nod for the day Walford enjoyed Pride.

It was a heart-warming moment for Corrie that Gemma gave birth to her quadruplets, while it was eventually for Emmerdale that Chas gave birth to her baby daughter Eve.

And Hollyoaks also got a nod in the Feel-Good department, after several gloomy days, with Sienna Blake eventually reunited with her twins.

Although the so-called ‘Big Four’ – Coronation Street, Emmerdale, EastEnders, and Hollyoaks, will go head-to-head for Best Soap, some of the much-loved serial dramas on TV were also recognized.

Alex Walkinshaw of Holby City (Adrian ‘Fletch’ Fletcher) and Rosie Marcel (Jac Naylor) are up for Best Drama Actor.

They will go head-to-head with their pharmacy drama rivals Casualty, with Cathy Shipton (Lisa ‘Duffy’ Duffin) and Derek Thompson (Charlie Fairhead) all nominated.

Doctors star Bharti Patel (Ruhma Carter), Home and Away’s Ray Meagher (Alf Stewart), and Neighbours star Stefan Dennis (Paul Robinson) are up for Best Daytime Star.

The Inside Soap Awards will also air this year for practically the first time in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
