Isla Fisher wants to make Home and Away return – 20 years after leaving the soap

A number of Hollywood performers, like Chris Hemsworth, Samara Weaving, and Isla Fisher, got their start on Home and Away, and now one of them has indicated that they’d be interested in returning to Summer Bay.

Fisher, who previously played Shannon Reed on the drama from 1994 to 1997, has said that she had “considered about” returning to the show.

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, the actress, who is married to Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen, said of a potential comeback: “Of course I’ve thought about it! I’ve thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be hilarious?’

“But then the reality of it is, obviously, you have to give lots of notice, and then it gets written in and then you have to commit. But obviously, it would be fun just to sort of like, walk by with a surfboard or something at some point.”

It may not quite be a full comeback, but we’d certainly love to see it.

Shannon’s three years on the drama included battling anorexia, reuniting with her birth mother after being adopted, and having a relationship with an author named Mandy, with whom she finally departed the Bay.

Fisher has had a successful Hollywood career after leaving Home and Away, starring in films such as Wedding Crashers, Confessions of a Shopaholic, and Now You See Me.

However, she claimed that her favorite performance was playing tragic Myrtle Wilson in the film adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby in 2013.

“I will always say that for me, The Great Gatsby was just such a special experience,” she said. “Not just to work with [director] Baz Luhrmann, who I’d admired from everything he’s ever done, but I think just, you know, building Long Island the way we did in Sydney and just the sets and the scope and the scale and the character.

“That character, Myrtle, was just so different from anyone I’ve ever played and I got to do so much research. It just was delicious, every moment was divine.”
