Three months after her character Tiffany Butcher left Albert Square, Maisie Smith is ready to make a surprise return to EastEnders.
The actress, 20, left Walford with a suitcase in December of last year, 13 years after she first appeared on the BBC serial as the daughter of departing character Bianca Jackson when she was six years old (Patsy Palmer).
Maisie has reportedly been filming scenes with Tiffany’s ex-boyfriend Keegan (Zack Morris), who recently announced his departure from the show.
‘Bosses believed Tiffany had unfinished business with Keegan that needed to be resolved before he went,’ a source told The Sun. As a result, they decided to ask her to return for one episode. Viewers will have to wait and watch if they are able to mend their relationship or if the bad blood between them persists.’
A spokeswoman for EastEnders has been approached by MailOnline for comment.
Tiffany was heartbroken when she found out her husband, Keegan had cheated on her with Dotty Cotton (Milly Zero).
She later dated Aaron Monroe (Charlie Wernham), but they broke up after he displayed his aggressive side.
Last October, it was revealed that Maisie was leaving EastEnders, with the actress reportedly receiving a number of high-paying offers for other projects.
‘It’s time to say goodbye to Tiff!’ she declared at the time. Since 2008, I’ve been a fan of EastEnders and have learned from the greatest over the last 13 years.
‘I’m extremely enthusiastic for my next task, and I’m grateful to the BBC for giving me this opportunity as a six-year-old.’
‘We are all very sad to see Maisie leave,’ said EastEnders Executive Producer Jon Sen.
‘During her time on EastEnders, she’s been a lovely company member, and it’s been a delight to watch her grow into the star she is.’
‘In Tiff, she has created an iconic figure, and the path to her return is always open.’
‘We wish her the best of luck with her future endeavors.’
Maisie reportedly decided not to renew her contract this time because she wanted to seek other opportunities.
Following her successful run on Strictly, the singer was reportedly offered six-figure deals with clothes and beauty businesses, but she had to turn them down due to her BBC contract.
After competing with professional Gorka Marquez, 31, Maisie came in second place on Strictly Come Dancing in 2020.
Zack, Maisie’s co-star, announced earlier this week that he is quitting EastEnders after five years on Albert Square.
According to reports, the actor who plays Keegan Baker has already finished filming his final moments on the show.
The revelation was shared on Wednesday by EastEnders’ official social media, with the BBC drama revealing that Keegan will leave Walford later this year.
‘After five wonderful years on this fantastic show, I’ve decided to quit Walford and give Keegan Butcher-Baker some well-deserved vacation.’
‘Quite frankly, this show has transformed my life for the better,’ Zack stated.
All is not lost, however, as the actor does not appear to have ruled out a return for his character, referring to his departure as arrest.’
Zack debuted on the show in 2017 as part of a new family to the fictional borough, quickly becoming a fan favorite thanks to his gritty storylines.
‘Zack has been a fantastic asset to EastEnders; not just as a brilliant actor, but as an amazing company member,’ said Kate Oates, Head of Continuing Drama, BBC Studios, of Zack’s departure.
‘Keegan from our screens and Zack from our Elstree family will be missed.’
‘He’s a fantastic talent, and we wish him the best of luck in the future.’
Real-life relationship rumors about Maisie and Zack were recently debunked, with Zack’s ex-girlfriend apparently referring to Maisie as “the other woman.”
