Midsomer Murder and EastEnders actress Annette Badland received ‘death threats from fans who were seeking ‘revenge’

The star was frightened for her life after receiving death threats

Annette Badland is a well-known actress who has appeared on our screens for decades.

She has been bullied despite having amassed a large fan base awestruck by her acting abilities.

After her on-screen performances, particularly for her appearance on EastEnders, the 70-year-old actress confessed that some people emailed her scary threats.

From 2014 to 2017, Anette portrayed the famous character, Babe Smith, on the BBC serial.

The actress said that she was “frightened” and spoke to the police after fans sent her “very shocking” death threats

Speaking on the Distinct Nostaligia podcast. she said: “People did believe I was Babe, which was shocking. It was the first time people didn’t say to me, ‘Oh I can’t remember your name but I liked you in that thing the other night’.”

Annette added: “Most people loved her and enjoyed the naughtiness of it but towards the end, I did have death threats which is very shocking and frightening.

“It is a tricky thing that you go, ‘Oh this is wonderful that people think she is real,’ and then there are people who go with it and don’t enjoy it or it offends them as they think it is real and they want revenge.”

For her own protection, the actress was advised by authorities to refrain from disclosing details about her whereabouts.

She continued: “She ruffled some feathers as the character and the police told me, ‘You don’t tell anyone where you are going. You always have a phone.

“You can go, ‘Oh this is just some poor person and nothing is going to happen,’ but you just don’t know.

“So I was quite frightened for a bit. And you just have to go about your life and hope for the best.”

Anette has previously been in Doctor Who and The Crown and is best known for her role as Dr. Fleur Perkins in Midsomer Murder.
