The stars of EastEnders, Coronation Street, and Emmerdale who met in real life

You might be surprised to learn which actors found true love on the set of our favorite soaps, no matter how different their characters were on screen.

A drama-filled love story that keeps us on the edge of our seats is a must-have for any British soap.

Viewers have cheered on their favorite on-screen couples over the years, perhaps unaware that the actors were not always acting.

In fact, the sets of EastEnders, Coronation Street, and Emmerdale have all become ideal meeting places for real-life lovers.

And you might be surprised by some real-life couples.

While soap operas aren’t exactly known for perfect love stories, real-life couples fare a little better.

Weatherfield and Walford have seen it all, from wedding disasters to shady affairs.

Below, KentLive takes a look at some of our favorite soap opera co-star couples in real life.

In 2000, these two lovebirds met on the set of Coronation Street and married a year later.

In the popular soap, Jennifer and Lee played Geena Gregory and Jez Quigley, respectively.

Before he was killed off the show in 2000, Jez was the bad boy on the block.

After suffering heartbreak from two men who claimed to love her, Geena, the cheeky and beautiful barmaid, waved goodbye to those at Weatherfield in 2002.

The cobblestones couple has been married for 20 years and has two children, Jack, 17, and Scarlett, 11.

Jennifer and Lee are both patrons of the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, a charity that provides vacations for sick, disabled, underprivileged, and terminally ill children.

Chris Chittell and Lesley Dunlop – Emmerdale

These Emmerdale co-stars have been married for five years and make a wonderful real-life couple.

And it all began on the Emmerdale streets of Yorkshire. Lesley made her first appearance on the show in 2008, and the couple met then.

On the ITV series, their characters Brenda Walker and Eric Pollard were also involved in a love story.

Chris and Lesley are still co-workers on the show and have a happy marriage outside of it.

Chris and Lesley both have two children from previous relationships, but they have never had children together.

Coronation Street’s Tisha Merry and Alan Halsall

On the soap opera Coronation Street, actor Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone Dobbs, has dated a couple of his co-stars.

He is currently dating Tish Merry, who previously played Steph Britton on the show.

It comes after his divorce from Lucy-Jo Hudson, who played Katie Harris on the show and is the mother of his daughter.

Tish and Alan have been dating since 2019 and now share a home.

Matthew Wolfenden and Charley Webb – Emmerdale

7 soap stars who turned to crime in real life, from EastEnders to Coronation Street

Matthew Wolfenden and Charley Webb married in 2018 and have three beautiful sons together.

When Matthew joined the cast of Emmerdale in 2006 as David Metcalfe, the two met on set.

Charley first appeared on the show four years ago, and she still plays Debbie Dingle.

The couple started dating in 2007, and two years later, in 2009, they got engaged.

They welcomed their sons Buster, Bowie Grey, and Ace into the world during the first six years of their relationship.

Despite their 2013 breakup, the couple reunited in 2015, and after a lengthy engagement, they married three years later.

Sally Carman and Joe Duttine – Coronation Street

Since 2017, Sally Carman has played Abi Franklin, a drug addict and mother of three.

Joe has played Tim Metcalfe since 2013, when his character first appeared on the cobblestones looking for his daughter.

In the summer of 2018, the two announced they were dating a year after meeting.

The co-stars made it official with an engagement ring only two years later, in March 2020.

Mark Jordon and Laura Norton – Emmerdale

Daz Spencer and Kerry Wyatt, who play each other on Emmerdale, have become real-life fiances.

Mark Jordon has been a part of the series since 1986, and Laura Norton joined in 2012.

She met her fiancé after his brief time on the show, having played Priya Sharma since 2011.

But it was only a matter of time before sparks flew, and the couple began dating in 2018.

A year later, they made their engagement announcement.

Jeff Hordley and Zoe Henry – Emmerdale

This Emmerdale couple is now happily married, but they met before they were cast in the show.

In 2001, Zoe Henry joined the ITV series as Rhona Goskirk, a veterinary surgeon.

The co-stars were college sweethearts who married after two years of working on the show together.

Caroline was only on the show from 2015 to 2020, when she played Dr. Howarth. While Chris has played the ever-controversial Peter Barlow since 2000, Caroline was only on the show from 2015 to 2020.

Caroline has two children from a previous marriage to actor Jason Watkins of Line of Duty.

Belle is her third child, whom she shares with Chris.

Amy-Leigh Hickman and Shaheen Jafargholi – EastEnders

Linzi Bragg, Jay Brown’s underage girlfriend, was played by Amy-Leigh Hickman between 2016 and 2017.

Despite his character’s brutal conclusion, Shaheen appears to have found love with Amy-Leigh, with the two reportedly dating.
