She may be Australian soap royalty, but once she crossed paths with the most popular member of the real Royal Family, Home and Away star Emily Symons, 51.
The actress posted a throwback picture of the time she met the Queen on Instagram over the weekend.
In 2002, when the head of state visited the show’s fictional town as part of a storyline, Emily, who worked on UK soap Emmerdale, was lucky enough to shake hands with the Queen.
I wonder if this bit will be in the next series @shereemurphy @markcharnock #elizabethestensen” Emily captioned the photo, “Just finished binge-watching The Crown.
Such good memories of the day outside The Woolpack we met The Queen! #emmerdale-based
The visit to Emmerdale by the Queen was a little more dramatic than most of her official appointments in real life.
While a tour of the city was offered to The Queen, which included the soap’s famous Woolpack Inn and the post office of the city, confusion ensued when the postal building was blown up.
Cast member Mark Charnock told The Sun that The Queen barely flinched amid the dramatic scenes.
“When the explosion went off, she was cool as a cucumber,” he told the publication in 2019.
“The rest of us were leaping out of our skin.”
The Queen has previously visited the sets of other famous UK soaps EastEnders in 2001 and Coronation Street in 1982 as well as Emmerdale. Maybe the next on the To-Do list might be a stop in at Neighbours’ Ramsay St or Home and Away’s Summer Bay?
In the meantime, Home and Away has over the years seen its fair share of famous faces setting foot on stage.
In 2015, as the grown-up kid that Emily’s character Marilyn used to nanny, British singer Ed Sheeran made a surprise appearance in Summer Bay.
“It’s an institution from Australia. In my small chip shop, it’s still on,” Ed said at the time.
“I got asked to do it and it sounded like it could be fun”
